Overview
This case study focuses on the redesign of a key feature within a B2B holiday property management system. The system enables holiday property owners and managers to efficiently enter new bookings through a dedicated "New Booking" feature. My role involved characterizing and designing an improved popup interface to enhance the booking process.
Problems with the Existing Popup
Several issues surfaced with the existing popup system in the B2B holiday property management system that required immediate attention:

Intrusive Full-Screen Popup: The popup covered the entire interface, disorienting users.
Lack of Clear Navigation: Users were confused about the next steps due to poor guidance.
Multiple Successive Popups: The booking process involved numerous popups, disrupting workflow.
Accessibility Issues: The design did not meet accessibility standards, making it hard for users with disabilities to navigate.
These issues collectively led to a frustrating and inefficient user experience, necessitating a redesign.
Quote from the persona
"Every time I tried to book a new holiday, the full-screen popup would cover everything, making it hard to know what to do next. It felt like I was constantly fighting through popups just to get a booking done."

"The popup system was impossible to navigate with my screen reader, and the lack of clear steps made the whole process confusing and frustrating."

Research and Approach
I studied Booking and Airbnb to improve the popup system in our B2B holiday property management platform. Booking uses non-intrusive popups for seamless user guidance, while Airbnb focuses on modular, accessible designs. This research informed our redesign to prioritize clear navigation, minimal disruption, and accessibility, aiming to set new industry standards.
User-Centric Design: Prioritizing user-centric design principles, we aimed to enhance user interaction and streamline navigation.
Solution Implemented
Through thorough competitor analysis of platforms like Booking and Airbnb, I redesigned our booking process by replacing the intrusive full-screen popup with a seamless slide-in panel. This approach ensures users maintain workflow continuity and system context. The addition of a process bar provides clear, sequential steps, guiding managers through each stage of the booking process. Features like gray input buttons, navigation controls, and streamlined selection tools were informed by best practices observed, optimizing user interaction efficiency. A final approval stage allows for review and edits, enhancing booking accuracy, while customizable finalization buttons provide property owners with tailored booking completion options.
Progress Bar: A visual bar that shows users where they are in the booking process and what steps come next, making the process clearer and more manageable.
Slide-in Panel: This panel smoothly integrates into the interface, ensuring it doesn't block other parts of the system while users enter booking details.
Gray Buttons: These buttons clearly mark where users need to input information, making it easier to navigate and complete each section.
Next and Back Buttons: Buttons that allow users to move forward and backward through the booking steps, providing flexibility and control.
Dropdowns and Radio Buttons: These tools simplify choices and selections, speeding up the process and reducing errors.
Final Approval Stage: A critical step where users can review all details entered before finalizing their booking, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
Four Finalization Buttons: These options give property owners different ways to complete their booking according to their preferences, making the process more customizable and user-friendly.
Outcome
The redesign of our B2B holiday property management system's booking process has yielded significant improvements in usability and efficiency. By replacing the disruptive full-screen popup with a seamless slide-in panel and implementing features such as a clear process bar, intuitive input buttons, and streamlined navigation controls, we've simplified the booking experience. Users now benefit from clearer guidance, reduced complexity, and enhanced accuracy through the final approval stage. These enhancements have not only streamlined operations but also elevated user satisfaction, setting a new standard for intuitive and efficient booking processes in our industry.
